Earnest “Earnie” Robert Sterling, II, of Phenix City, AL passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, in Smiths Station, AL.
Earnie was born December 28, 1960, in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Earnest Robert Sterling and Dorothy Ellen Finley Sterling. He was a consultant for Total Systems in Columbus, GA with 20 plus years of loyal service. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a Christian by faith. He was a huge fan of NASCAR growing up watching Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and continuing to watch the legacy of the Earnhardt family cheering on Dale, Jr. He enjoyed watching SEC football and supporting his favorite college football team, the West Virginia Mountaineers. He loved the outdoors and camping, riding his Harley, and traveling the roads admiring all the beautiful scenery.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia McDonough.
He is survived by his beautiful bride of 24 years, Leticia Rivas Sterling; two daughters, Shelby Jones, and Tara Hart; stepdaughter, Theresa Eatherly and husband Josh, stepson, Edward Sauer, and wife Stephanie; five sisters, Helen Cleavenger, Nancy Nooe, Pam Kidd, Patty Hatchet, and Debbie Gibbons and husband Johnny; (16) grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 am EDT on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Mr. Joe Morway officiating. The family will receive friends at the memorial service and for a short period after the service at the funeral home in Phenix City. A private burial will be held at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, date, and time to be determined.
