Mr. Edgar Lee Burt Jr.

Mr. Edgar Lee Burt, Jr., 90, of Pittsview, AL, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at  Piedmont Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA.

Edd was born July 6, 1931 at the family home in Pittsview, AL to Bertha and Edgar Lee Burt, Sr.  Edd grew up enjoying the country life of riding horses, raising livestock, hunting and fishing.  He graduated from Pittsview High School in 1949 and received a B.S. degree in Animal Husbandry from the Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, in 1953.  During his college years, he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi social fraternity and the National Block and Bridle Club.  Edd joined the United States Army in 1955 and received his basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC.  He served with the military police at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, NM.

In 1959, he married his late wife of 61 years, Mary Stewart Burt in the Pittsview Methodist Church and welcomed their son, Edgar Lee Burt, III in 1961.  Edd enjoyed his work with the U.S. Postal Service and with his cattle and hog operations on his farm in Pittsview.  He was the past president of the Russell County Cattlemen’s Association, director of the Russell County Farmers Federation, a member of the Pittsview Civic Society, and a lifelong member of the Pittsview United Methodist Church.

Mr. Burt is survived by his son, Lee of Pittsview, AL, as well as many loving family members and friends.

A graveside service will be held 12:00 noon est (11:00 am cst) Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at the Pittsview Cemetery in Pittsview, AL.
