Edith Benefield

Edith Benefield, 83, of Columbus, GA passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Columbus Hospice House.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Mike Randall officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Vance Memorial.

Mrs. Benefield was born October 27, 1934 in Karlsruhe, Germany to the late Johannes and Rose Schroth.  She was retired from Fieldcrest Mills with 34 years of dedicated service.  She was a member of Weems Road Freewill Baptist Church for 30 years. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Werner Schroth and Theo Schroth and her step-daughter, Wanda Slaughter.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Don Benefield; 2 sons, Thomas Dutton and wife Lena and James Dutton; sister Irmgard Letoureau of West Palm Beach, FL; 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren; special niece and nephew Pam and George Vachon of Phenix City; numerous nieces, and nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
