Edna Baldwin Johnston Capps, 94 of Phenix City, AL, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2014, at Gentiva Hospice in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm EDT, on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City, with Pastor Robert Goodman officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm EDT, at the funeral home.
Ms. Capps was born on July 7, 1920, in Opp, AL, the daughter of the late Byron Baldwin and Luvada Strickland Baldwin. She was retired from Civil Service at Fort Benning, GA and played high school basketball. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, and quilting and was a member of Summerville Baptist Church.
Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Albert Mahlon Johnston, (3) sisters, Orene Molchan, Pearl Griffin, and Nell Wiggins, brother, Perry Baldwin, and a great grandchild, Caleb White.
She is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Johnston Sanders, husband Henry Franklin Sanders and Dolores Johnston Glymp; son, Michael G. Johnston, wife Linda, all of Phenix City, AL; 2 brothers, Aaron Baldwin, wife Marie of Opp, AL and Elmer Baldwin, wife Joyce of Level Plains, AL; (9) grandchildren, Lynn Davis (Pam), Keith Sanders (Angela), Michelle Johnston, Crystal Johnston, Brandon Johnston (Elsie), and David Johnston (Susan), Cheyanne Richardson (Travis), Jeffery Riley (Donna) and Jerrid Riley; (11) great grandchildren, Cara White, Jonathan Davis, Matthew Davis, Brooke Milner, Blake Dohney, Destiny Hampton, Jayden Shiver (Chris), Tyler Johnston, Emily Johnston, Nicholas Johnston, and Ryan Johnston; great great grandchildren, Annabelle White, Alison White, Kayleigh Davis, Karsen Davis, Jonathan Davis, Brianna Davis, Zaine Milner, Kaylor Milner, Kryston Milner, and Brycen Dohney; many extended family members and caring friends.
