Ellen Marie Adams, 77, of Smiths Station, Alabama passed away following a long battle with cancer on August 27, 2024. Marie was born in Columbus, Ga on March 27, 1947, to the late Rev. Joseph Fred and Mary Savannah Cass. She attended Smiths Station schools and The University of Alabama in Birmingham. She met the love of her life, Roland Larry Adams, and began a long shared adventure that led them all over the US and beyond. She remained a dedicated, loving, and faithful wife to Larry for 58 years of marriage until his passing in August of 2021.
Marie enjoyed politics, reading, shopping, and traveling. She delighted in any opportunity to eat out with family or friends and had wildly eclectic taste in music. When Marie wasn’t watching Alabama football, she was searching for a new movie to watch. She was a wonderful mother to her children, and to the many cats that showed up at her door looking for food. Marie was a woman of faith who always helped others any way she could. She chose to always see the good in people but didn’t suffer fools. She fiercely protected the people she loved and would love with every ounce of her being. Marie was a special woman who will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved her.
Marie Adams is survived by her children, Jody Adams of Smiths Station, Jennifer Adams (Scott) of Old Fort, NC, and Barry Adams (Michele) of Centerton, AR; grandchildren, Brock Hartman (Miranda), Brody Hartman, Connor Adams (Samantha), and Amelia Adams; great-grandchild, Aizen Adams Hartman; sisters, Dorothy Singleton and Becky Sanders (Jacky); as well as many more extended family and beloved friends.
Marie Adams is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Joseph F. Cass and Mary Savannah Brown Cass; and sister, Mary Joe Cass Williams.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to ActBlue or the ASPCA.
