Elsie "Faye" Dykes

Elsie “Faye” Dykes, 79, of Smiths Station, AL passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2017 in the comfort of her home while surrounded by her loving family.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held 3:00 pm EDT on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Steve Williamson and Rev. Justin Abercrombie officiating.  A private interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dykes was born June 5, 1937 in Phenix City, AL to the late Johnny Christian Newsome and Lillian Harrell Newsome.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother whom was deeply devoted to her family.  She had also worked with Tom’s Foods in Columbus, GA and she was a member of Crawford Baptist Church.  She enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, shopping, and visiting her downhome family and friends, and she especially cherished her special times that she had with all her grandchildren.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Montez Stockberger, and Leila Stockberger.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Willie “Bascum” Dykes, one daughter, Pamela Dykes Carroll and husband Bert, son, William “Dexter” Dykes and wife Linda, two sisters, Janice Dawson and Elma Swinson, husband Tommy and one brother, James Thomas “Pete” Newsome; (4) grandchildren, Julie Carroll, Tiffany Yarbrough (Josh), Brooke McManus (Stephen), and Jenna Griggs (Marty), (5) great grandchildren, Steele McManus, Kyler Griggs, Rylee Griggs, Elsie Yarbrough, and Thatcher Yarbrough, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
