Elvin Benjamin Johnson, 78, of Phenix City, Al died peacefully at his home Sunday, January 1, 2017.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Bethany Baptist Church with visitation 1 hour before the service. Rev. Jimmie Hobbs will officiate and burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
Ben was born March 26, 1938 in Cussetta, GA to the late Elvin G. Johnson and Ethel Louise Wilkes Johnson. He retired from the US Navy serving during the Vietnam War. He was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Officer/Trustee of the Finance Committee, Sunday School Director, and various other leadership positions at the church. He was a member of the Wilson-Williams Masonic Lodge #351 and Scottish Rites. He was owner of Ben’s Electrical Service. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Martha Moon Powell.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Eleanor Louise Johnson; daughter, Beth Johnson Winters; 2 sons, Michael Johnson (Diane) and Robert Johnson (Tina); sister, Regina Johnson Cain; brother, Theron “Yancey” Johnson; 7 grandchildren, Christina, Matthew, David, Christopher, Benjamin, Selena and Jamie Louise; 3 great-grandchildren Hunter, Tyler and Olivia; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
