Emily Pearlen Speaks

Emily Pearlen Jones Speaks, 88, of Salem, AL passed away early Wednesday morning, March 29, 2017 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 pm EDT on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Rev. William C. Jones officiating.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm EDT prior to the graveside service at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City.

Mrs. Speaks was born November 1, 1928 in Phenix City to the late William Hobart Jones and Lou Ada Hicks Jones.  She was a lady of great character who loved all her family deeply.  She enjoyed arts and crafts, reading, and formally owned Halawaka Ceramic Shop in Valley, AL.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Carl A. Speaks, four brothers, Arthur Jones, Williams Jones, Henry T. Jones, and Edward Jones, and one sister, Lily Mae Worrell.

She is survived by one daughter, Laurie Allen and husband Todd, three grandchildren, Adam Richardson and wife Lacey, Ashley Parmer, and Amanda Allen, two great grandchildren, Carly Richardson and Logan Richardson, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, and great great nieces, and nephews, numerous other family members and many caring friends.
