Ethel Fleming Graves

Ethel Fleming Graves, 103, of Phenix City, Alabama, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 25, 2021.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM EST, on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 US Highway 431 North, Phenix City, AL, with Rev. Grant Parker and Rev. Tommy Poole officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Graves was born in Pike County, AL to the late Robert Lee and Melissa Adaline Wilson Fleming. She and her late husband, David Edwin Graves, moved to Phenix City to begin work at the Eagle & Phenix Mill. Later, she worked at and retired from Sunshine Biscuits. She loved cooking, gardening, and being outdoors. She was a faithful member of Holland Creek Baptist Church until her health prohibited physical attendance. After becoming homebound, she was known for watching several different televised church services each Sunday! She also enjoyed her “shows,” like Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and any western.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Lorene Tew (Lee), Arthur Fleming (Flora), Samuel Fleming (Lucille), and Genie Mae Ellis (Wanda).
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Graves Matthews (Nigle) and Shirley Graves Buckelew (Tommy) and one son, David Lee Graves, all of Phenix City, AL. She was “Mama Graves” to five grandchildren: Melissa Smith (Eric), Tamara Sanders (Greg), Christopher Matthews (Amy), Jonathan Matthews, and Samuel Buckelew. “Mama Graves” was also loved by eight great-grandchildren, countless nieces and nephews, and a host of friends who became like family. The family is especially grateful for the care given to her by Debra Ingram, Laquita Streeter and Teresa Satterwhite.
