Mrs. Evelyn Christene Gallman Pitts, 80, of Smiths Station, AL passed away Friday, May 27, 2022 at her home.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL with Pastor Clay Duck officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Ms. Pitts was born June 27, 1941 in Cleveland, AL, daughter of the late Fred Thomas Gallman and Clois Louvrne Gallman. She was a loving wife who supported her husband as he served our country in the United States Army. Mrs. Pitts cared for her family and served in the church and her community. She and her husband were lifelong mission supporters, who worked at the Talladega Raceway Ministries, providing food and school supplies to the Mississippi Delta area, walked for Bibles at the Seaman Center in Mobile, AL to make sure Bibles were given to all the seaman in their language. Mrs. Pitts was a faithful member of Philadelphia Baptist Church for over 50 years, since July 18, 1971. She served her church in many capacities, including the WMU Director, GA Leader, helped with vacation bible school and established the Library and managed it for many years. Mrs. Pitts served for many years working at Laurel Lake Baptist Camp during the summers. She was a giving person, loved by all that knew her. Mrs. Pitts will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Miron Pitts, Sr. and a brother, John Thomas Gallman.
She is survived by six children, Shelia Law (Eddie) of Smiths Station, AL, Becky Huff of Salem, AL, Gabriella Forsythe (Lee) of Phenix City, AL, Cindy Thomley of Phenix City, AL, Karen Teagle (Jeffrey) of Phenix City, AL, and Bill Pitts, Jr. (Jennifer) of Smiths Station, AL; a sister, Marie Hamilton of Columbia, SC; a brother, Kenny Gallman (Denise) of Bessemer, AL; grandchildren, David Law, Gene Wilson, Bobby Wilson, Brandon Huff, Daniel Forsythe, Jessica Vines, Tracy Leonard, Troy Thomley, Valerie Braswell, Alex Thomley, Kellie Branton and Christopher Burch; 28 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
