Evelyn Williams

Evelyn Williams, 85, of Midland, GA passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at her residence.  A funeral service will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Monday, March 9, 2020 beginning at 11 am with Dr. Garry Moore officiating.  The interment will conclude at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery at 1:00 pm.  The family will receive friends Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm.

Evelyn was born on February 26, 1935 in Camden, MS to the late Joseph Harris and Mildred L. Harris. She was a woman of many gifts and talents, including her leadership ability. As the successful business owner of “Beauty Secrets” in Carthage, MS, Evelyn strove to meet high standards that would ensure superb customer satisfaction. When it came to being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Evelyn held her family close to her heart. Her devotion was unwavering and her love was undeniable. Evelyn moved to Columbus, GA in 2010. She was a devoted member who loved New Generations Unified Church. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and church family. Those who knew her will forever have her fingerprint upon their hearts.

Other than her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her first husband, Newton Alfred Handy, III and second husband, Henry C. Williams; son, Maurice Handy: brothers: Joseph Harris, Lent Harris, Johnny Harris, Maxiel Harris, Malcolm Harris, Walter Harris, Archie Matlock; sisters-in-law, Vertie Harris and Christine Harris.

Survivors include her daughter, M. Cenobia Moore (Garry) of Midland, GA; five step-daughters, Tennida Dawson, Stella Smith, Deborah Harper, Chanetta Mitchell, and Andrea Harris; grandchildren: Jasmine Moore, LaShawn Moore McZeal, Antoine Williams, Brandi Williams, Mandy Dawson, Imani Dawson, William Smith, Vincent Smith, Vanessa Smith; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and relatives; four sisters-in-law, Florence Harris, Claudia Harris, Beverly Harris, and Annie Matlock.
