Foye Lavonne Clegg, 91, of Hamilton, GA, passed away on April 15, 2025 surrounded by her beloved family. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, with Rev. Dr. Kevin Calhoun officiating.
Foye was born in Colquitt, GA, on June 8, 1933, to the late Roy P. Oliver and Jesse A. Rumph Oliver. Foye was the youngest of six girls and, also had two brothers. She grew up in Colquitt, GA until moving to Columbus, GA in 1943 at 8 years old following her mother’s passing. Her Auntie, Carrie Stringer, took a huge part in helping raise her beginning at the age of 10 and remained close to her and her children until she passed. After high school, Foye attended college and began working as a secretary. She took pride in her work and accomplishments over the years. She began her career as a personal secretary for John Kinnett Jr. and John Kinnett Sr. with Kinnett Dairies then became the personal secretary for Donald MacMahon with Royal Crown Companies. Foye later became the personal secretary for the CEO’s at Callaway Gardens for 25 years including Hal Northrup, Bo Calloway, then Edward Calloway. Foye retired at the age of 81 and turned her focus towards reading and family gatherings with her immediate family and sisters in south Georgia. Foye was a distinguished and graceful woman who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Foye is preceded in death by her parents, Roy P. Oliver and Jesse A. Rumph Oliver; Auntie Carrie Stringer; and siblings, Sarah Cook, James Oliver, Margaret Reynolds, Juanita Tarre, Betty Finley, and Jean White.
Foye is survived by her sons, Kenny (Robin) Clegg of Hamilton, GA, Dave (Lyn) Clegg of Cumming, GA, and Guerry (Gail) Clegg of Columbus, GA; brother, Crawford Oliver; grandchildren, Joseph (Amanda) Clegg, Joshua Clegg, Jeff (AnnaMarie) Clegg, Kevin Clegg, Kelly Clegg, Drew Clegg, and Ellen Clegg; and great-grandchildren, Katelyn Clegg, Sarah Clegg, Hanna Clegg, Jaxon Clegg, and Lila Jane Allen-Clegg; best friend, Montez Champion-Gillis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A very special thanks to The Gardens at Calvary for the love and dedication given to Foye during her time there. The family will always be grateful for the staff for going above and beyond to accommodate for Foye and for making her feel so welcome and loved during her time with them.
