Frances Elizabeth Kelly, 89, of Phenix City, AL, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 in Auburn, Alabama, surrounded by her loving family.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 EDT on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Rev. Charles Keown officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. EDT at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City.
Mrs. Kelly was born on August 29, 1926 in Phenix City, AL, the daughter of the late Prince A. Jernigan and Nina Lee Holton Jernigan. She was a graduate of Central High School. With her husband Jody, she owned and operated Kelly Superette for 35 years. She was a longtime member of Lakewood Baptist church and a faithful member of the Joyful Servants Sunday School Class. She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ben Joseph “Jody” Kelly, Sr.; sister Marie Jernigan Barr; brother, Albert N. Jernigan and an infant brother, Harry.
She is survived by her children, Ben J. Kelly, Jr. and wife Donna of Auburn, AL, Linda Kelly Boyd of Roswell, GA; grandchildren, Jay Coulter and wife Adicia of Phenix City, AL, Candice Kelly Forbes and husband Mallory of Birmingham, AL, Elizabeth Kelly Hudson and husband Jon of Atlanta, GA, Sean Boyd of Atlanta, GA, Marci Jernigan Hyman and husband Todd of Marietta, GA; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and many caring friends. The family appreciates two special angels, Linda Alexander and Brenda Lyles who bestowed great love and care on Mrs. Frances.
