MSG (Ret) David Earl Ellis, 79, of Columbus, GA passed away May 27, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice Inpatient Unit. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1953 Torch Hill Road, Columbus, GA 31903 on Monday, May 30, 2016 beginning at 11:00 A.M. EST with the Reverend Nick Mansell officiating. The entombment will conclude the service at Parkhill Cemetery at The Chapel of the Pines with full military honors. The Rosary will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 on Sunday, May 29, 2016, beginning at 5:30 P.M. EST. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the Rosary from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. EST.
David was born July 26, 1936 in Anderson, IN to the late William Ray Ellis and Gladys McCarthy Ellis. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was a United States Veteran, who proudly served his country during the Vietnam War where he received four Bronze Stars and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm as well as numerous other ribbons and medals. He retired from the United States Army with over 20 years of service. He also worked with the Civil Service for over 20 years.
Other than his parents, David is predeceased by two sisters, Martha Baldwin and Ruth Anne (Ellis) Morrow-Cumberland; and a brother, Billy Ellis.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Bernadette Ellis; two daughters: Christine Ellis Sloane (William “Bill”) of Columbus, GA and Rochelle Ellis of Columbus, GA; three sons: Dominique Ellis (Dorene) of Pensacola Beach, FL, William Ray Ellis (Jennifer) of Atlanta, GA and David Ellis (Tina) of Talbotton, GA; one sister, Carolyn Livingston of Daytona Beach, FL; three grandchildren: John Ellis (Georgia) of Atlanta, Ga, Bradley Ellis of Pensacola Beach, FL and Jason Ellis of Nashville, TN.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice at 100 Brookstone Centre Parkway, Columbus, GA 31904.
