MSG Ret. Richard Adolf Liebl, 85, passed away January 28, 2016 at his residence in Columbus, GA. A funeral service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Monday, February 01, 2016 beginning at 11:00 A.M. EST, with Chaplain Lem Pearsall officiating. A committal with full military honors will conclude the service at the Fort Benning Main Post Cemetery, beginning at 1:00 P.M. EST. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, prior to the funeral, from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. EST.
MSG Ret. Richard Adolf Liebl was born September 23, 1930 in Munich, Germany, the son of the late Karl and Anna (Ausenbauer) Liebl. He immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1951. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, served 2 tours in Vietnam and retired as a Master Sergeant after 26 years of service. He retired a 2nd time from Civil Service at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed spending time at the VFW and American Legion in South Columbus.
He was preceded in death by 2 sons, his parents and sister. He is survived by his son, Richard and daughter-in-law, Susan of Herndon, Virginia; daughter, Amanda and son-in-law, David Heard of Milton, Washington; grandchildren: Matthew, Evan, Tammy, Nicholas and Eastyn; and dear friends Thu Le, Marianne Mullins and the Mullins Family, and Carlean Cole.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the World Wildlife Fund (worldwildlife.org) in his memory.
