George Francis Chambliss

George Francis Chambliss, 89, of Hurtsboro, AL, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2015, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm EST / 1:00pm CST, on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Hurtsboro UMC, with Reverend Keith Turner and Reverend Eric Pugh officiating.

Mr. Chambliss was born on July 5, 1926, in Hurtsboro, AL, the son of the late Julian and Mildred Chambliss. He worked and retired from Schlumberger then moved back to Hurtsboro in 1978 where he worked at the Hurtsboro Post Office and also for the City for various engineer jobs. He was a member of Hurtsboro UMC where he served on many boards and as a teacher of Downtown Men’s Sunday School Class.

Other than his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Julian J. Chambliss, Jr., sister, Mildred Fleming, and his first wife, Judith Vann Chambliss.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara W. Chambliss; children, George Francis “Cham” Chambliss, Jr., wife Jacqueline and Donald “Vann” Chambliss; Barbara Ann Self, husband Gregg and Sandra W. Davis, husband Al; sister, Alice McDow; 10 grandchildren, Sam, Brian, Lindsay, Jason, Christopher, Roger, LeighAnn, Alvah, Alyssa and Whitney; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and many caring friends.
