George P. Perdue

Phenix City

Mr. George P. Perdue, 84, of Phenix City, AL passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.

 

A funeral service will be held 3: 00 pm EST, Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL with Reverend Grant Parker officiating. An interment with military honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 pm EST, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. 

 

Mr. Perdue was born in Phenix City, AL on May 13, 1939, son of the late Jacob Calvin Perdue, Sr., and Jimmie Gray Perdue. Mr. Perdue was a 1957 graduate of Central High School in Phenix City, AL and a 1961 graduate of Auburn University. He was a registered professional engineer in Alabama and Georgia. Mr. Perdue served as Deputy Director, Department of Facilities Engineering, Fort Benning, GA. He served 7 years active duty in the United States Army and retired from the Georgia Army National Guard as a Brigadier General after 33 years of service.  Mr. Perdue spent many years serving as an adult Sunday School teacher at First Christian Disciples of Christ and at Epworth Methodist Church in Phenix City, AL, where he was a member. He was a member of the Gideons International, American Society of Civil Engineers, Georgia Society of Professional Engineers, Alabama Society of Professional Engineers, and the Society of American Military Engineers, and a former member of the Civitan Club of Phenix City. Mr. Perdue had many other interests; he was a former member of his high school band playing the baritone and later played guitar and piano. He had an avid interest in airplanes and had obtained his private license for light aircraft. He enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and eastern Europe. His other hobbies included Astronomy, he had a six-inch telescope and an extensive book collection. He will be missed by his family, coworkers, and friends. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother J.C Perdue. 

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Kathryn Lovett Perdue of Phenix City, AL;  three daughters, Anna Frances Dekle and husband Kerry of Birmingham, AL; Elizabeth Moore  of Phenix City, AL and Paige Hartman and husband Andrew of Columbus, GA; a son Christopher Michael Perdue and wife Heather of Birmingham, AL; two sisters, Mary Faye Kirkland of Phenix City, AL and Alice Ann Irving of Baton Rouge LA; one brother, William ‘Bill’ Perdue of Phenix City, AL; grandchildren, Lindsey Theer and husband Jon-Erik, Abigail Moore, Amelia Perdue, Jake Perdue, Joe Dekle, Zachery Dekle; several extended family and friends.
