George Thomas Williams

March 20, 1939 — January 29, 2018

 

George Thomas Williams, 78, of Phenix City, AL entered heavens gates late Monday, January 29, at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm EST on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City with Rev. Rodney Mitchell, Dr. Wayne Scarborough, Rev. Ralph Henderson, and Rev. Mike Grimes officiating.  Interment with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EST at the funeral home.  Serving as pallbearers are Marcus Parker, Jeremy People, Caleb Heald, Kevin Boatner, Adam Porter, Jody Hammett, Billy Allen II, and Justin Goodson.

Mr. Williams was born March 20, 1939 in Coffee County, AL to the late J W Williams and Mary Lee Bell Williams.  He was retired from Civil Service at Fort Benning with 30 years of loyal service.  He served our country proudly and was a Veteran of the United States Navy, and he was a member of the Williams Wilson Masonic Lodge.  He was passionate about hunting and fishing, loved his Alabama Crimson Tide, and was a member of Auburn Heights Baptist Church.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Winston Williams, and Winfred Williams.

 He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Mary Ann Bridges Williams, one daughter, Vicki Williams (Phenix City, AL), one brother Robert Paul Williams and wife Angela (North Hampton England), sister-in-law, Ann Williams (Columbus, Ga), special cousins to his heart Billy and Janice Allen (Abbeville, AL), and adopted son Johnny Hammett (Crawford, AL), adopted daughters, Cindy Hammett (Crawford, AL), and Tina Prickett (Phenix City, AL) and adopted grandchildren Jessie and Jody Hammett (both of Crawford, AL), and to the one who introduced him to the love of his life, Jimmie Baker (Phenix City, AL), and numerous extended family members, and many caring friends.
