Mr. Gerald “Jerry” Thornton

Gerald “Jerry” Thornton, 70, of Phenix City, AL died Monday September 21, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am est Friday, September 25, 2020 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Marvin Minton officiating. Internment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Mikey Carlisle, Zachary Carlisle, Holten Warren, Justin Brown, Fred VanHorn, Steve Ring, Paul Brown, and John Findlater.  The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Thornton was born August 6, 1950 in Columbus, GA son of the late Thomas Gerald Thornton and Joyce Page Thornton.  He was a truck driver for over 41 years working with Callaway Chemical, which later became Vulcan Chemicals.  The last 8 years of his career was self-employed delivering for Wal-Mart.  Mr. Thornton enjoyed working on antique cars and his antique tractor.  He could fix anything and was often referred to as the Ladonia Handyman. Mr. Thornton also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson in the past, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Evangeline Griggs Thornton of Phenix City, AL; three daughters, Kimberly Carlisle and husband Michael of Opelika, AL, Kristie Warren and husband John of Seale, AL and Karol Anne Motos and husband Billy of Phenix City, AL; one sister, Vickie Thornton Land and husband Dickie of Phenix City, AL; one brother, Keith Thornton of Phenix City, AL; grandchildren, Mikey Carlisle (Erika), Zachary Carlisle, Hannah Warren, Holten Warren and Kamden Motos; great-grandchildren, Shelby Carlisle, Bryce Carlisle and Ruby Carlisle; several other extended family and friends.
