Gerald Wayne Dykes, Sr., 76, of Phenix City, AL, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at St Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm EST, on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Vance Memorial Chapel with Rev. Watson McKemie officiating. A private interment will follow. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at Vance Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Dykes was born on September 12, 1941, in Damascus, GA son of the late Benjamin Franklin Dykes and Sybil Laverne Cook Dykes. A long time employee of Synovus he had a strong work ethic and would often put work ahead of other things. He enjoyed the simple things in life, good home cooking, fishing and the love he shared with his wife. Gerald found peace when he allowed the grace of God to truly define him. Simple became eternal.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Ricky Dale Dykes.
He is survived by his wife and helpmate of 54 years, Cynthia Crossley Dykes; children, Melissa Denise Crossley, Christine Andrew and husband Keith, Gerald Wayne Dykes, Jr., Patrick Dykes, wife Emily and Heather Culpepper; siblings, Wynette Smith, Dan Dykes and wife Pat and sister-in-law Christine Dykes; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other extended family and many caring friends.
