Gerta Heider Leach

Gerta Heider Leach, 96, of Leesburg, GA passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 at her son’s home in Leesburg, GA.  A funeral service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Friday, September 01, 2017 beginning at 12:30 PM EST, with Chaplain Mark Hughes  officiating.  The interment will conclude the service at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery at 2:30 PM EST.  The family will receive friends Friday, September 01, 2017 at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M.until 12:00 P.M. EST.  

Mrs. Leach was born May 25, 1921 in Zirndorf, Germay to the late Wolfgang and Margarete Heider. During World War II, Mrs. Leach volunteered with the Red Cross and TB Sanitarium.

Other than her parents, Mrs. Leach is predeceased by her loving husband of fifty-two years, Roy B. Leach, one sister, Erna Eckstein and one brother, Erwin Heider.

Survivors include one daughter, Margaret R. Leach of Columbus, GA; two sons:  Richard W. Leach of Columbus, Ga and Robert and Linda Leach of Leesburg, GA; four grandchildren:  Heidi Hamrick, Michael and Lori Leach, Donna and Shawn Bullington, and Debbie Poole; nine great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.

Gerta was a faithful and loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her prayers were always repeated twice, once in English and once in German.
