Gery Lamar Oвђ™Neal, Jr.

Gery Lamar O’Neal, Jr., 33, of Phenix City, AL, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Midtown Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon EST, on Friday, May 19, 2017, at Golden Acres Baptist Church with Dr. Ray Cummings officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens and the family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm EST at the church. Pall Bearers are Josh O’Neal, Gabe O’Neal, Bruce Valdez, Justin Bratton, Blake Russell, Drew Hopkin, Zach Lape and David Craft.

Gery was born on March 3, 1984, in Columbus, GA, the son of Gery and Karen O’Neal. He graduated from Smith Station High School in 2002 where he was an extremely active student. He participated in or was active in the Debate team, French Club, FBLA, Quiz Bowl, Scholastic Bowl, Spanish Club, Teachers Aide, Howard Hughes Science Outreach Initiative, People to People Student Ambassador Program, Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Later he attended CVCC (Software Engineering) having earned an Academic Scholarship. He was a HAM radio Operator w/FCC, was active in his youth group (Concord Baptist Church), loved being with his family & friends & always enjoyed Auburn Football. He worked as an IT Tech for the Lee County Board of Education and was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charlie O’Neal and Maternal grandfather, Sonny Wilson.

Other than his parents, Gery and Karen O’Neal, he is survived by 2 brothers, Joshua O’Neal, wife Stephanie and Gabe O’Neal, wife Brandi; grandparents, Sue O’Neal and JB and Carole Costello King; nieces and nephews, Kayla, Cameron, Kaylynn, Kady and Gabriel, Jr.; extended family members and many caring friends. We would like to thank his caregivers Linda Wilson, Victoria Rodriguez and Paige Simmons
