Gladys Pope Thompson

Gladys Pope Thompson, 94, of Phenix City, AL passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Columbus Hospice in Columbus, GA.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am EST, on Friday February 10, 2017 at Golden Acres Baptist Church, with Rev. Ray Cummings and Rev. Rosevelt Oakes officiating.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thompson was born December 31, 1922 in Phenix City, AL daughter of the late Velpoe A. Pope and Maggie Stover Pope.  Gladys has touched the lives of many with her loving kindness, generosity and encouragement.

After graduating from Central High School, she attended Secretarial Business School.  She retired from American General Life Insurance, formerly National Life Insurance Company, with 32 years of service as Head Cashier

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Patrick Clawson; second husband Rev. W. H. Thompson; brothers, Haywood Pope, Rev. Ira Pope, Chester Pope and Glenn Pope; sisters, Hazel Ward and Crystal Deason.

She is survived by two loving daughters, Jo Thompson Blanton and husband Randy of Atlanta, GA and Penny Thompson Keller and husband Keller of Rougement, North Carolina; 6 grandchildren, Robbie, Jeffery, Chris, Eric, Link and McKinley; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; God-daughter, Karen Ryan; nieces and nephews, Janet Hudson, Gloria Danielson, Joyce Bailey, Myra Chappell, Otis Thompson, Helen Pope, Barbara Pope, Lisa Kelly, Darlene Allen, Denise Hall, Tilden Hudson, Clint Allen, Clay Allen, Jerry Pope, Glen Pope, Jr., Brad Danielson, as well as many other loving family members and caring friends.
