Gloria Ann Chesnut McNeal, 82, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. A graveside service will be held for family and friends on Saturday, February 5, at 11:00 AM at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. Services are being handled through Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Columbus.
Gloria was born in Columbus, GA on May 23, 1939 to Eugene Doss Chesnut and Earline Ogletree. Upon graduating from Jordan High School in 1958, Gloria moved to New York City and eventually to Hartford, Connecticut where she married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Phillip McNeal, in 1960. Jerry and Gloria moved back to Columbus in 1967. She was married to Jerry until he passed in August of 2020. She was a homemaker and raised four children: Andrew Scott McNeal, Robin Leah Snipes, Joel Phillip McNeal, and Jessica Lynn Tucker. In 1975, Gloria took a job working in the Treasury Department for the City of Columbus where she worked until she retired in 1995.
Gloria was very active in church activities and believed in working hard and living simply. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, decorating, and spending time with her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and church friends. Gloria was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her three sisters, Merry Presta, Sherry Laporto, and Patricia Baker. She is survived by her half sister, Betty Sue Hudson Morris, her four children (Andrew, Robin, Joel, and Jessica) and their spouses, Ana Liza McNeal, David A. Snipes, Judy Sagul McNeal, and Timothy J. Tucker. She had nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of friends to cherish her memory.
