Gloria "Mae" Kite

Gloria “Mae” Kite, 95, of Columbus, GA passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Columbus Hospice House.  A funeral service will be held at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Saturday, March 7, 2020 beginning at 11 am.  with Rev. Sean Heggood officiating.  The interment will conclude at Parkhill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday, March 6, 2020 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm .

Mae was born on August 9, 1924 in Columbus, GA to the late George Adams and Ruby Blair Adams. She was a member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church. Mae devoted her life to serving others. With her husband by her side, she helped in many organizations and was always active in the PTA at her children’s schools. During the Christmas season, Mae and Buster would volunteer at nursing homes, spreading joy and sharing her beautiful smile with the residents and staff. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1943.

Mae loved life and lived it to the fullest. Sewing, painting, dancing and writing stories about her life were only a few of her many talents. She loved animals and birdwatching but not nearly as much as she loved her family. This extraordinary woman has, without a doubt, left a legacy for her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.

Other than her parents, Mae is preceded in death by husband, Bernard “Buster” Ervin Kite; sister, Dorothy Hall; brothers, John Adams, George “Candy” Adams, Roy Adams; grandson, Clint Hammond.

Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Sagul (Douglas) of Columbus, GA and Gloria Sellars (Tommy) of Cross Hill, SC; six grandchildren: Austin, Nick, Chris, Adam, Emily; four great-grandchildren: Rileigh, Hudsyn, Sarah Kate, and soon-to-be born, Hughston.
