Gordon Jones Christian

Gordon Jones Christian, 91, of Columbus, GA passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Magnolia Manor in Columbus, GA.  A funeral service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Saturday, March 24, 2018 beginning at 1:00 P.M. EST, with his nephew, Brother Fred Kruger officiating.  The interment will conclude the service at Parkhill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday, March 23, 2018 at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. EST.  

Gordon was born September 25, 1926 in Richland, GA, to the late Raz Lee Christian and Belle Jones Christian.  Gordon was a member of First Baptist Church of Robinson in Robinson, TX.  He graduated high school in 1943 from Jordan High School. There at Jordan, he was Captain of ROTC.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a WWII Veteran. Gordon retired after thirty-six years with the Civil Service Field Printing Plant.  He also was employed with Standard Printing Company for twelve years.  Gordon was Post Commander for the American Legion, Post 135 in Phenix City, AL and a member of the 40 – 8 Club. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather. Gordon was a very kind, giving and honorable man. He will forever be missed.

Other than his parents, Gordon is predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy Mae Christian; sister, Elizabeth Hicks and grandson, Chris Brown.

Survivors include daughters, Patricia Christian of Columbus, GA and Susan Shavers and husband Buddy of Waco, TX; sister, Caroline Christian of Columbus, GA; four grandchildren, Jason and Melanie Fussell of Columbus, GA; Chuck Shavers of Waco, TX and Kimberly Granger of Waco, TX; great grandchildren, Whitley Mae, Carley, Brantly and Charlie Jane Fussell, Jonathon Smith, Mattie and Noah Berry, Josh Granger, Krysten, Nathan and Bryson Shavers; nieces, Nancy O’Malley, Maureen Thomas and Julie Hicks; nephews, Pastor Pat O’Malley and Robert Hicks, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
