Gordy Wayne Allen, 79, of Phenix City, AL died at Columbus Piedmont, Midtown on Thursday, January 4, 2024 with his family by his side.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM (EST) on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Lakewood Baptist Church with Rev. Andrew Spires officiating according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Allen was born September 6, 1944 in Columbus, GA son of the late Winfred Allen and Nettie Enterkin Allen. He was a 1963 graduate of Jordan High School in Columbus, GA. Wayne was a member of the Georgia National Guard for several years. He was also a member of Lakewood Baptist Church where he enjoyed worshiping with family and friends. He also sang in the AMEN choir. A working man all his life, he stated with McCoy Grocery and later moved to Winn-Dixie for several years. Wayne also drove a tour bus for Dixie Excursions for a while before finally joining Hobby Lobby as an Assistant Manager. A favorite past time was building bird houses and bee traps for folks. Family trips out of town were always a welcome adventure. He loved people and talked to almost everyone everywhere he went. He also had a giving heart and was regularly helping someone. Though he is no longer with us here, he will always be a fond memory in our hearts.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Winfred and Nettie Allen and his wife of 51 years, Ruth Ann Strickland Allen and a grandson, Jeremiah Allen.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Sizemore Allen; two sons, James Lee Allen (Angela), Columbus, GA and Ronnie Wayne Allen, Phenix City, AL; one step-daughter, Karen Barron (Larry); one sister, Judy Allen (Don) and one brother, Raymond Allen (Gale), Butler, GA ; one grandson, Nathaniel Allen; sister-in-law, Irene Burton, Columbus, GA; two step-granddaughters, Chanda Ray (Darrel) and Cherish Goodson (Justin); nieces and nephews, Cassandra Rodgers, Freda Dykes, Henry Dykes, Teresa Anderson (Kin) all of Phenix City, AL; Deborah Leigh Faist (Patrick) of Ball Ground, GA; Laurah Kae Casper (Josh), Box Springs, GA; Mike Page, Cataula, GA; Jessica Strickland, Kailua, HI and several others in Hawaii also; Todd Skeen, Daphne, AL; Mike Jay Skeen, Columbus, GA; Ralph Strickland (Nina), Olympia ,WA; Jack Strickland (Carol), Yuma, AZ; Deborah Burton Bankston (Jimmy), Gloria Skeen Wood (Troy Wood) and Laurah Kae Casper; other nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
