Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM (EST) on Friday, August 02, 2024, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Rodney Mitchell officiating. A private interment service will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour on Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Chalkley was born June 22, 1930, in Loachopoka, AL daughter of the late George Paul Webb and Margaret Robbins Webb. She was an active member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and most recently Auburn Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Chalkley had a servant’s heart and was at one time a Church Secretary, VBS Director, Sunday School Teacher and worked with the youth. She was also a valuable member of the Choir where she sang praises to God.
We are all shaped by our upbringing, and she was impacted by the Great Depression, however not in a negative way. Mrs. Chalkley loved to raise vegetables and flowers (knowing the names of each one), however this was not just for her enjoyment. She often shared the bounty of her gardens with others. Mrs. Chalkley also made beautiful quilts again, sharing with family and friends. Always seeking ways to serve, she often shared delicious meals that she cooked.
Mrs. Chalkley also had the gift of encouragement. No matter where she was, she lifted the spirits of those around her. During her time at the hospital and rehab the staff often requested to be assigned to care for her. Mrs. Chalkley was a true reflection of Christ in her actions.
Mrs. Chalkley was preceded in death by her parents, George Paul Webb and Margaret Robbins Webb; her husband of 57 years, Henry James Chalkley, Sr.; two siblings, Margaret Pauline Waller and Charles Edward Webb.
Survivors include her four children, Eva People, Henry Chalkley, Jr., Mark Chalkley (Debra) all of Phenix City, AL and Amanda Chalkley, Georgetown, GA; one brother, Paul Robbins Webb, Phenix City, AL; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
