Guerry S. Lowther, 96, of Smiths Station, Al passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 am EDT Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Rev. Olivia Poole-Reneau officiating. The family will receive friends after the graveside service at the graveside.
Mr. Lowther was born August 7, 1919 in Smiths Station, AL to Guerry Lowther and Rubye Simpson Lowther. He was a retired sales representative for Fulton Supply Company with 25 years of service. He served our country and was a Veteran of the United States Army and the Army National Guard. Mr. Lowther was a member of the Smiths Station Ruritan and had a great passion and love for the Smiths Station Community. He enjoyed farming, gardening, and the outdoors. He was a longtime member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Smiths Station and served in many capacities of the church and trustees. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jean Byrd Lowther, son, Guerry Samuel Lowther, Jr., and two brothers, William Lowther, and Charles Lowther.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan Fitzwater and husband Johnny, and Jean Boehmler, both of Smiths Station, AL, a daughter-in-law, whom he loved as a daughter, Janis Lowther of Montgomery, AL, one brother, Richard “Dick” Lowther of Smiths Station, AL; (4) grandchildren, John Edward Boehmler, Jr., Alexander Cameron Boehmler, Rachel Carden (Garrett), and Catherine Fitzwater, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
