Hardy Jerald Smith, 86, passed away on April 8, 2025. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm EST on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Parkhill cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 with Rev. Mike Reeves officiating.

Hardy Smith was born on March 19, 1939, in Columbus, GA, to the late H.J. Smith and Mary Boland Smith. After high school, Hardy obtained his master’s degree in engineering from Georgia Tech and worked as a college professor for several years before becoming a Research Engineer for Waterways Experiment Station until retiring. During his time working he published several geology studies. He was a member of Golden Springs Southern Baptist Church in Anniston, AL, and was a devoted son of God. He was very regular at church and taught at Sunday school at the request of others in his class. Hardy married the love of his life, Mary Smith, and remained her faithful and loving husband for almost 50 years until his passing. He loved his wife dearly and devoted himself to taking care of her. Hardy was the most kind, generous, and honorable man and always put his family first. Hardy will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Hardy Smith was preceded in death by his parents, H.J. Smith and Mary Boland; and sister, Judy Smith Bagwell.

Hardy is survived by his wife, Mary Smith; daughters, Jeannie McCormick (Jason), Marie Johnson, Julie Victoria Garrison, Stacey Clark LeBrasseur, Alice, and Laura; sons, Edwin Smith, Raymond Lee Clark, Jr., and William David Clark, III; and numerous beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
