Helen Marie Duke Rumsey, 86, of Phenix City, AL passed away early Sunday morning, July 28, 2019 in the comfort of her home while surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am EST on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. Skip Speed officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am, one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Mrs. Rumsey was born February 13, 1933 in Phenix City, AL, daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Duke and Lela Mae Marsden Duke. She had worked with the Smiths Water Authority and was retired with many years of loyal service. She enjoyed cooking, working in her flower garden, shopping, and visiting the beach. Her greatest joy was spending time and sharing memories with all her family; she cherished her family, and her church family. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Smiths Station. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Edna Alice Williamson.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 66 ½ years, James “Jimmy” Eugene Rumsey, of Phenix City, AL, one daughter, Alison Rumsey Johansen of Phenix City, AL, brother, Jack Duke and wife Sally of Smiths Station, AL, two grandchildren, Mallauri Shay and husband Jeremiah, and James Tyler Charles Johansen, three great grandchildren, Landon, Brayden, and Brynlie, several nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and numerous friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Philadelphia Baptist Church Homebound Ministries in memory of Mrs. Helen Marie Rumsey.
