Rev. Henry Samuel “Sam” Allen, 95, of Buena Vista, GA passed away Tuesday July 2, 2024, at his home with his family at his side.
The funeral service will be held 1:00 pm EDT Saturday, July 6, 2024, at New Providence Baptist Church in Buena Vista, GA with Rev. David Chapman and Rev. Jim Gilboy officiating. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 4:00 until 7:00 pm EDT, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL. as well as on Saturday at New Providence Baptist Church, for one hour prior to the 1:00 funeral service
Sam was born May 8, 1929 in Columbus, GA, son of the late William Marion Allen and Minnie Collier Allen. He owned a military supply store in his early years, which he sold when the Lord called him into the ministry at age 40. Sam attended Trinity College in Dunedin, Florida and pastored numerous churches before retiring for the final time on his 93rd birthday. He loved people and loved teaching them about his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Sam enjoyed vegetable gardening, working in his shop, and sitting on his porch just enjoying the beauty of nature. He loved his many cats.
If he could talk to us now, Sam would say something like this: “when you hear that I am no longer living, don't believe a word of it----for I am living the best part of my life as I have moved into my heavenly home”.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Gail Allen; a son, Samuel Marion Allen; and a grandson, Michael Roy Allen; sisters: Myrtle Brown, Ethel Bullard, Mary Corley, Eunice Wommack, and Flora Brown; brothers: Jimmy Allen and Newt Allen (Daisy).
Sam is survived by his loving wife, Vivian Allen of Buena Vista, GA; daughter, Dianne Mitchell and husband Gary of Salem, AL; grandchildren, David Allen (Alexandra), Jason Allen (Katie), Amy Smith (John Paul) and Jenny Scruggs (Tony); great-grandchildren, Savanna, Sammy, Noah, Cora, Hailey, and Damien; numerous extended loving family members, many caring friends, and a large host of Christian brothers and sisters.
