Henry Hilton Hartzog, 87, of Phenix City, AL, passed away Tuesday morning at Phenix City Healthcare.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am EDT, on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Vance Memorial Chapel with Reverend Billy Duncan and Reverend Matt Sachitano officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home.
Mr. Hartzog was born in Midway, AL, the son of the late William Henry Hartzog and Myrta Whitman Hartzog. He worked at Fort Benning, GA as Facilities Engineer for (then known as) Infantry Hall and Martin Army Community Hospital; he later retired as Chief Engineer from West Central Georgia Regional Hospital. He then enjoyed working with Twin Cedars Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home in Columbus, GA. He served our country and was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Beallwood Baptist Church in Columbus where he served as an ordained deacon and Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed gardening, and teaching others his gardening techniques. Having grown up around rail yards, he developed a passion for trains.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by three sisters, Mabel Hartzog Pickett, Gladys Hartzog Paramore and Olga Hartzog Pilcher and a brother James Quincey Hartzog.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 69 years, Annie Lucille Baker Hartzog; two daughters, Shirley Anne Hartzog Todd and husband Glenn of Grayson, GA and Donna Kay Hartzog Rolling of Phenix City, AL; son in-law, Jeff Rolling; one grandchild, Grant Hunter Rolling; several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church family, and many caring friends.
