Herman Edward “Ed” Niles, 89, Phenix City, AL died at his home on Saturday, August 27, 2022 with his family by his side.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM (EST) on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Pastor Jeremy Hoyle officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 PM (EST) at the funeral home.
Mr. Niles was born January 20, 1933, in Brantley, AL son of the late Harman Jackson Niles and Vera Bell Deavers Niles. He had retired from Columbus Mills as a Fixer in the Spooler Room after 39 years. Mr. Niles was a man who never stood still and was always busy. He was a “jack of all trades” to include being an excellent carpenter. Mr. Niles loved God, family, riding horses and working on cars. We will remember him as “The best man we ever knew, who touched numerous lives.”
Mr. Niles was preceded in death by his parents, Harman and Vera Niles; two sisters, Voncile Brazier and Ruby Maddox; a stepson, Mark Haywood; three grandchildren, Benjamin Self, Robert Joseph Green and Crystal Burnham.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Dozier Niles; six sons, Joe Wallace Burnham, James Burnham (Nellree), Mike Edward Niles, Tim Haywood, Rodney Niles and David Niles; two daughters, Janice Mace (Reid) and Felica Turner (Glenn); one sister, Margie Ganus (Larry); two brothers, Marvin J. Niles and Eric Niles (Jeanette); sixteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and four precious great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
