Hernon Hodges, 78, of Columbus, Ga passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Columbus Hospice House. A graveside service will be held at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, Ga on Thursday, September 22, 2016 beginning at 11:00 A.M. EST with President Greg Stewart, Ron Shehane and the Reverend Bob Hawkins officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road in Columbus, Ga from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. EST.
Mr. Hodges was born October 6, 1937 in Geneva County, AL to the late Julius “Hugh” Hodges and Willie Merle Gunter. He attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Howard Avenue in Columbus, GA. He served his country proudly and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was also self-employed and the business owner of Truck Trailer Refurbishing Company. He was member of the Georgia Football Officials Association. He loved hunting and fishing and was an avid fan of University of Georgia football as well as the Atlanta Braves.
Other than his parents, Mr. Hodges is predeceased by his sister, Gloria Hodges Buckner; his brother, Larris Hugh Hodges; and a grandson, Harlen Nicklaus Hodges.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-four years, Sara Murphy Hodges; three sons: Jeffrey Scott Hodges and wife, Denise, of Hamilton, GA, James Hernon Hodges of Columbus, GA, and Patrick Murphy Hodges of Columbus, GA; a sister: Betty Holcomb of Columbus, GA; three grandchildren: Hughston Matthew “Matt” Hodges of Hamilton, GA, Hunter Bradford “Brad” Hodges of Hamilton, GA and Savannah Taylor Hodges of Columbus, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hodges was a kind, loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend and will be forever missed.
