Horace Greely James

Horace Greely James, 83 of Smiths, AL died at his residence January 27, 2019 with his grandson and wife by his side.

A memorial service will be held Friday, February 01, 2019 at 2:00 PM EST at Golden Acres Baptist Church with Rev. Scotty Green officiating, according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL.  The family will receive friends (casual dress) one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mr. James was born January 20, 1936 in Cullman County, AL and was the son of the late William Greely James and Virgie McLeroy James.  He retired after 43 years from Dolly Madison Bakery as a Production Manager and was a member of Golden Acres Baptist Church and the Shepherds Sunday School Class.  Mr. James enjoyed his family, working on his property, using the tractor and feeding the fish in the lake.  His wisdom and love will continue to influence generations to come and his fond memories will always be cherished in our hearts.

He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Ralph James and two sisters Polly Pitts and Rena James.

Survivors include his wife Ingrid Mayer James, Smiths AL, four children Jeannie Chapple (Donnie), Gardendale AL, Rodney Dexter (Jennifer), Phenix City AL, Randall James (Kim), Jasper AL and Jeff Dexter (Donna), Midland GA, sister Marie Watkins, Warrior AL: 13 grandchildren, very special grandson Blake Greely Dexter, Jennifer, Keith, Kevin, William, Davis, Sara, Noah, Addie, Tamara, Valarie, Kayln, Colton and 8 great grandchildren.  Many nieces and nephews, including Dena Green and Lori Otts and many other family members and friends.
