Irell Wright Mixon

Irell Wright Mixon, 99, formerly of of Columbus, Georgia passed away peacefully Monday, May 29, 2017 at Gentiva Hospice surrounded by her loving family.  A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia, beginning at 1:30 P.M. EST.  Donald E. Mixon will be officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday, one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:30 P.M.  The interment will conclude the service at Evergreen Memorial Park in Columbus.

Mrs. Mixon was born January 1, 1918 in Cottonwood, AL to John R. Leonard Wright and Susie Diania Davis Wright.  She was a charter member of Benning Park Baptist Church in Columbus and more recently, attended Southside Baptist Church.  She was active with the food bank and Sunshine Sunday School Class at the church.  Mrs. Mixon also worked with sales in Stanley Home Products in the Columbus area for thirty years. 

Other than her parents, Mrs. Mixon was preceded in death by her loving husband of thirty-two years, Joseph F. Mixon; three brothers:  J. D. Wright, Mathew E. Wright and Henry W. Wright; a sister, Lillian Adelle Carney; and a grandson, Jonathan W. Mixon.

Survivors include four children:  Joseph W. Mixon (Cynthia) of Trinity, FL, Donald E. Mixon (Becky) of Marietta, GA, Henry D. Mixon (Norma) of Warm Springs, GA and Linda Mehaffey (Michael) of Clifton, VA; thirteen grandchildren:  Mark Mixon, Joseph Mixon, Jeffrey Mixon (Olga), Christina Mixon, Courtney Mixon Graham (David), Elizabeth Mixon Brooks (Mathew), Victoria Mixon Atherton (Dave), Cynthia Mixon, Mary Mixon Leverett (Mike), Melissa Mixon Hughes (Billy), Henry D. Mixon, Jr., Heidi, Erin Mehaffey Harper (Donovan) and Colin Mehaffey; twin sisters, Martha Carlile of Dothan AL and Mary Deyhle of Albuquerque, NM, and Sherry Ann Key of Troy, AL; eighteen great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.
