James Jerry Culpepper

James Jerry Culpepper, 77, of Phenix City, AL died peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 11, 2024 with his family by his side.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM (EST) on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Dwayne Dean and Rev. David Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Culpepper was born May 28, 1946 in Troy, AL son of the late James Quitman Culpepper and Vernie Rea Dease Culpepper. He was a Contractor by trade and built numerous homes in our area as Culpepper and Sons Construction. He attended Unity Baptist Church where he enjoyed fellowship with family and friends. Mr. Jerry loved to grill on his homemade grill. Cooking ribs was his specialty. He also was the unofficial camp cook at the hunting club, making him the favorite member there.

The memories we have as a family include all of his cooking for family events like the 4^th of July or any family gathering. It seems he never grew tired of being around family. We are thankful for his instilling this in us.  We will always smile when we look at a house he built, or we grill some ribs. Thank you for all of the great and happy memories we shared together as a family.

Other than his parents, James and Vernie Culpepper, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Marie Hussey.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Fanny Smith Culpepper, Phenix City, AL; two children, Jeri Neel (Eric) and Scott Culpepper (Pam); four grandchildren, Cain Culpepper (Magen), Cara Culpepper Livingston (Jacob), Dalton Dempsey (Cheyenne) and Dillon Dempsey (Melanie); eight great-grandchildren, Joleigh, Maley, Brookely, Lane, Ada, Kylie, Raelynn Rose and Nathan; sister-in-law, Elaine Reddish and brother-in-law, Donnie James Smith (Tammy); other family members and friends.
