James Eugene “Jimmy” Rumsey, 89, of Phenix City, AL, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
A private Graveside Service was previously held at 11:00 AM (EST) on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery, Smiths Station, AL with his grandson, Tyler Johansen, who officiated according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. The U. S. Army rendered military honors.
Mr. Rumsey was born June 16, 1934, in Phenix City, AL, son of the late James Edward Rumsey and Bertha Mae Duncan Rumsey. He was a proud U. S. Army Veteran. Mr. Rumsey retired from W.C. Bradley Company after more than 50 years of dedicated service. He retired as Director of Corporate Services. He was an active member of Philadelphia Baptist Church for many years, singing in the choir and serving as an usher. Mr. Rumsey was also a trained vocalist and often sang at weddings, funerals, and other special events. He enjoyed playing golf with friends and spent many hours taking care of his yard; however, his favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. He put them above everything else. We will remember him as loyal to God, his country, family, and work.
Mr. Rumsey was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Rumsey and Bertha Mae Duncan Rumsey, and his wife of 66 ½ years, Helen Marie Duke Rumsey.
He is survived by one daughter, Alison Rumsey Johansen of Phenix City, AL; a sister, Linda Davenport, Marietta, GA; two grandchildren, Mallauri Shay (Jeremiah), and James Tyler Johansen; three great grandchildren, Landon, Brayden, and Brynlie; niece and nephew, Susan Mathis Moore and James “Jay” Mathis; extended family members, church family, and friends.
