James Ellis Smith

James Ellis Smith, 77, of Phenix City, AL passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Gentiva Hospice in Columbus, GA.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 until 7:00 pm EDT, on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Vance Memorial Chapel. Mr. Smith will be buried next to his parents at Highland Cemetery in Anniston, AL.

Mr. Smith was born September 1, 1937, in Delta, AL, son of the late Ellis Wensley Smith and Annie Jane Whitley Smith. He graduated from Anniston High School before receiving a degree from Georgia Tech. He served his country for several years in the US Army and was employed by Hardaway Construction locally for many years.

Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Margaret Ann Charles.

He is survived by his brother, Jerome Smith; niece, Jo Ann Hoekenga and husband Steve; and several other extended family members and friends.
