James Erving Rodgers

James Erving Rodgers, 88, of Phenix City, AL passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at his home.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm EDT Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Vance Memorial Chapel with Rev. Grant Parker officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm EDT, one hour prior, at the funeral home.

Mr. Rodgers was born January 14, 1929 in Pike County, AL, son of the late Albert H. Rodgers and Eulice Cox Rodgers.  He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  Mr. Rodgers retired from Fieldcrest Mills with over 30 years of service.  He was a long time member of Epworth United Methodist Church.  Mr. Rodgers enjoyed church activities, gardening and fishing.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Glen Rodgers and a son-in-law, John H. Simmons.

Mr. Rodgers is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Thelma Barefoot Rodgers of Phenix City, AL; two daughters, Myrtle Faye Simmons of Columbus, GA and Miriam Sue Farless and husband Joey of Guyton, GA; two sons, LaDon Erving Rodgers of Brundidge, AL and James Michael Rodgers and wife Cindy of Huntsville, AL; a sister, Elizabeth Ann Barrett of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; a brother Joe Mack Rodgers and wife Adeline of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren, Ashley Simmons Bailey, Alayne Simmons Gamache, Meredith Barr Studds, Tracy Barr Settles, Joni Barr Strickland, James Rodgers and John Rodgers; great-grandchildren, Madilyn Studds, Kaylan Settles and Dylan Settles; many extended family, church family and caring friends.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the church or charity of your choice in his honor.
