James George Neel

James George Neel, 71, of Phenix City, AL passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 15, 2024, in the comfort of his home in Phenix City.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm EDT Monday, May 20, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Clay Duck officiating.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Neel was born August 1, 1952, in Phenix City, AL, son of Jewel C. Neel and the late G. W. Neel.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and esteemed self-employed individual of Neel Construction for over 45 years.   George was a man of many passions. He found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren and cherished every moment with them. His love for fishing, the great outdoors, nature, gardening, and animals illuminated his life with purpose and contentment.  He was a Christian and a Baptist by faith.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Julie Ann Neel.

Mr. Neel now leaves behind a legacy that will be forever treasured by his surviving family and friends. His loving wife of 53 years, Nancy Jean Hodge Neel; caring mother Jewel C. Neel; devoted daughter Shelaine Brown; compassionate son Eric Neel and wife Jeri Lynn; sister Judy Dean Pritchett and husband Billy; brother David King Neel and companion Carrie Miller, and sister-in-law, Pat Trawick mourn his loss deeply.  His memory will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren; James Judson Neel (Carson), Jacob Brooks Neel, Lainey Jade Brown, Alaina Remington Brown, Dalton Dempsey (Cheyenne), Dillon Dempsey (Melanie), as well as great-grandchildren; Millie James Neel, Kylie Dempsey, Nate Dempsey, Rosie Dempsey; along with numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and numerous friends.
 
Rest in peace, dear James George Neel. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts as we carry your legacy forward with love and gratitude.
