James Fort “Jim” Ormond, Sr., 76 of Smiths Station, AL passed away peacefully early Monday morning on February 20, 2023 at Thrive at Green Island Assisted Living in Columbus, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm EST on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Lakewood Baptist Church in Phenix City with Rev. Tim Gay, Rev. Charles Keown, and Rev. Andrew Spires, officiating per Vance Brooks Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 pm CST at Old Side Cemetery, Old Sides Road, Sumterville, AL, on Thursday, February 23, 2023 with Rev. Brad Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Ormond was born August 22, 1946 in York, AL; son of the late James R. Ormond and Josephine Fort Ormond. He was retired from AutoZone after many years of loyal and dedicated service. He served our country honorably and was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed outside yard activities, working jigsaw puzzles and spending time at his mountain home in Tennessee. He was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Phenix City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Evan Ormond, and Reid Ormond.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Janet Walker Ormond of Smiths Station, AL, one son, James “Jamey” F. Ormond, Jr. of Knoxville, TN, and three precious grandchildren, Hannah Ormond of Athens, GA, Sarah Ormond and Jackson Ormond both of Atlanta, GA; numerous other loving family members, church family, and many caring friends.
