James Ralph “Jimmy” Jones, 66, of Salem, AL passed away early Saturday morning, September 23, 2023, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am EDT on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Rev. Ricky Ward officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm CDT / 3:00 pm EDT at Ramah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Josie, AL. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm EDT at the funeral home in Phenix City.
Jimmy was born April 13, 1957, in Tallassee, AL, son of the late Ralph Jones and Phyllis Haas. He worked as a master plumber with Turner Plumbing Heating and Air in Columbus, GA with many years of loyal service. He was Baptist by faith. Jimmy loved the outdoors; fishing and hunting, camping, visiting the beach and gardening. He also enjoyed attending NASCAR events or watching them on TV when he couldn’t get to the track; always pulling for Dale Earnhardt, Sr. to be out front! Jimmy was also ready each year for football season to begin so he could cheer on the Auburn Tigers. While he loved all these activities, his greatest joy was the time spent with his wife and all his family.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Chuck Fye and Howard “Butch” Jones and a great-grandson, Grayson Hilderbrand Bond.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Elaine Turner; daughter, Chasitie Turner and her husband Hank Sizemore and their children, Brandon James Turner, Gunnar Bond, Michael Bruce Skipper, Jr., Hannah Kaitlyn Skipper, Nathan Eugene Skipper and Jacob Skipper; son, Christopher Jones and his children, Airam Jones and Aiden Jones; son, Jason Turner and his wife Robyn and their children, Austin Evans, Ethan Evans, Baleigh Trew, Ava Turner, Zachary Turner, Melanie Trew, and Kingslee Trew; son, Kenneth Turner and his wife Kelly and their children, Josiah Romines (Braylee Mae Romines and Braxton Lee Romines), Kenneth L. Turner, Lexis DaCosta and Michael Gilchrest; sister, Aletha Fuller; brother, Eugene “Gene” Fye; several nieces and nephews, other loving family members, co-workers and a host of friends.
