James Michael “Mickey” Tucker, Sr., 73, of Salem, AL went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm EDT Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Summerville Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Goodman officiating. A private interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm EDT Tuesday afternoon at the Glenwood School Auditorium.
Mr. Tucker was born September 26, 1942 in Columbus, GA to the late James A. Tucker and Joyce Thomas Tucker Carroll. Mickey was a 1960 graduate of Central High School. He had received his B. S. and Masters from the University of Alabama where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Jason’s Honorary. He also served as Vice President of the University of Alabama National Alumni Association from 1975 through 1977. He was a teacher at University of South Alabama for three years, he served as Headmaster of Glenwood School for fourteen years, and retired as CEO of Direct Service Corporation with twenty nine years of service. Mickey enjoyed reading, traveling, Alabama Crimson Tide football, and watching all his grandchildren’s ball games. He was a member and a Deacon of Summerville Baptist Church in Phenix City. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Doty Christina “Christy” Tucker.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 ½ years, Doty Troutman Tucker of Salem, AL, son, James Michael Tucker, Jr. and wife Melissa of Phenix City, AL, one brother, Mark Carroll of Phenix City, AL, two grandchildren, Macey Tucker and Mitchell Tucker, several nieces, nephews, extended family, and many caring friends.
