James M. Ogburn Jr., 89, of Columbus, GA, was ushered by angels into the gates of Heaven on September 9, 2013. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, September 12, 2013 beginning at 3:00 P.M. EST at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, and Interment to conclude at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. EST at the funeral home. Mr. Ogburn was born February 26, 1924 in Slocomb, AL. to the late James M. Ogburn Sr. and Emma Leigh Loftin Ogburn. J.O., Snowball and Jamie as he was fondly called had a long life full of blessings. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had many accomplishments during his life- he was an excellent welder, pool player, deer hunter, fisherman and gardener. During his days in the Army, he was a Golden Gloves Boxer, a cook, a medic and a sharp shooter. James retired as a supervisor from the Bibb Mill, and was well respected by everyone that knew him. He is preceded in death by his brothers, CJ Ogburn, Padgett Ogburn and one sister, Madge Boatwright. James was married to the late Jean L. Ogburn for 56 years. He leaves behind three children, Michael Stephen Ogburn, Gail Ogburn Stills, (Ronnie), and Donna Ogburn Fraser; nine grandchildren, Michelle Tarbush (Marty), Jennifer Patterson, (Mike), Michael Bond, (Tracie), Mikelle Cotton Martin, (Jason) Julie Gallegos- Daniels, (Chris), Paige Fraser Wages, (Jeremy), Joseph Bradley Fraser, Michael Stephen Ogburn, Jr., and Catherine Daniels: and 12 great- grandchildren whom he adored. A special thanks to Dr. Rallo and the wonderful nurses at Columbus Hospice, Dr. Pippas and to his devoted granddaughter Julie that loved him so much, and her taking such good care of him for so many years.
