James Russell Sheely

James Russell Sheely, 87, of Waverly Hall, GA passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at his residence. A graveside service will be held at Waverly Hall City Cemetery on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 beginning at 10:00 am with Minister Angel Ford officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. 

 James was born on August 14, 1936 in Poland, OH to the late Russell R. Sheely and Mattie Royce Sheely. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant and completing two tours in the Vietnam War. James had a passion for woodworking and enjoyed playing golf and video games.

 A dedicated family man, James always found joy in the times he could spend with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He cherished his wife of 61 years, and together they built a beautiful life. Without a doubt, James has left his legacy for his family. His love and devotion will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.

 Other than his parents, James is preceded in death by his sisters Elma Vinion and Donna Vince. Survivors include his wife Karon McVety Sheely; sons David James Sheely of Saudi Arabia, Robert Russell Sheely (Stephanie) of Ellerslie, GA, and Shawn Sheely (Vickiy) of Waverly Hall, GA; grandchildren Tristan Sheely, Brittanie Hall, Austin Sheely, Stephen Sheely, Bethany Sheely, Dakota Sheely, Justin Sheely, Preston Sheely, and Abigayle Sheely; and great-grandchildren Parker Sheely, Credence Hall, and Ledger Hall.
