James Edward "Ned" Weathers

YNC (Ret)James Edward “Ned” Weathers, 83, of Columbus, GA, (formerly Smiths Station, AL), passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Piedmont Northside Hospital in Columbus, GA with his family by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm EDT on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City with Dr. Kevin Calhoun officiating.  Interment with Military Honors will follow at Crawford Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm EDT, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Mr. Weathers was born March 23, 1941, in Barnesville, GA, son of the late James Leon Weathers and Nettie Irene Hickman Weathers.   He served our country and was a Veteran of the United States Navy retiring after 21 years of dedicated service.   After his service career, he attended and studied at Troy State University graduating at the top of his class.  He was a member of the Health Care Financial Managers Association and served as Director of Operations for Columbus Hospice in Columbus, GA.  He enjoyed woodworking, pottery, the outdoors, and fishing.  He loved the Joyful Servants at Wynnbrook Baptist in Columbus, Ga where he attended and was a member.  

He is survived of his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Patsy Collier Weathers of Columbus, GA; daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Weathers of Phenix City, AL; son, John Michael “Mike” Weathers (Theresa) of Mobile, AL; sister, Mary Elaine Newton of Jonesboro, GA; two grandchildren, Andrew Michael Weathers (Amber), and Austin Michael Weathers; two great- grandsons, Landon and Aiden; several nieces, nephews, other extended loving family members, church family, and many caring friends.
