Jan Olivia Harwell

Jan Olivia Harwell, 81, of Salem, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at her residence with her family by her side.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM EST on Saturday, January 28, 2023, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home located at 3738 US Highway 431 North Phenix City, AL 36867 with Rev. Lynn McManious and Rev. Bud Passmore officiating. A private inurnment at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Harwell was born in Leslie, Georgia, the daughter of the late Zera A. Young and Agnes Kate Livingston Young. Mrs. Harwell was known by her family as a very social person who loved talking on the telephone and she never met a stranger. In her younger days she loved to cook and entertain for her family. She loved and treasured the time she was able to spend with her family, especially her grandchildren. Above all, she was a Christian and put Christ above everything in her life. She enjoyed reading and studying her bible and this was evident by the worn pages and notes written in the margins.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harwell was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Olen Harwell, Sr. and her sisters Elizabeth Young, Naomi Lowe and Doris Clark.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Cathy Adkison and husband David of Salem, AL and Theresa Sanders of Sikeston, MO; sons Kenneth Harwell, Jr. and wife Angela of Hinesville, GA, Steve Harwell and wife Sherry of Phenix City, AL and Scott Harwell and wife Izoe of Blythewood, SC; grandchildren Matthew Harwell, R.J. Liller, Joshua Harwell, Brandon Harwell, Katelyn Shoaf, Kylie Harwell, Samantha Lynn Adkison and Crystal Jordan, Victoria Garcia and Daniel Rivera and great grandchildren Madisynn Mygatt, MaLaynie Mygatt, Colie Shoaf, Carson Shoaf, Savannah Liller, Corey Shoaf, Zayden Liller, Ethan Harwell and Cataleya Garcia and Lorenzo Garcia.
