Janice Carole Amundson, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, left this world on December 25, 2024, at the age of 88. Services to honor Mrs. Amundson will be held on Sunday December 29, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Lutheran Redeemer Church of Christ 4700 Armour Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31904. Janice was born on October 6, 1936, in Adrian Minnesota and then grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Her early life was spent in a farming community which instilled in her a deep connection to the land. This nurturing environment shaped her into the remarkable woman she became—one who wore many hats throughout her life with grace and dedication.

For over 25 years, Janice devoted herself to her career at the Census Bureau until her well-deserved retirement. She was a vibrant leader in the Exchange Club of Columbus, where her contributions positively impacted the community. Her compassionate spirit extended further as she volunteered as a Gray Lady at St. Francis, where she brought comfort and kindness to those in need.

Janice was a dedicated member of the Lutheran Redeemer Church of Christ for many years, where she cherished the fellowship of her church community and loved attending services. Over the years, she served the church as financial secretary, trustee, altar guild, and many other positions alongside her husband. Her faith and values guided her through life and were reflected in her warm heart.

As a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, Janice brightened the lives of those around her. She possessed an inherent kindness and friendliness that made her a bright spot in the day of many, especially her nurses and caretakers, to whom she lovingly assigned nicknames. Her laughter and warmth echo profoundly in the hearts of her family and friends.

Her passions included her magnificent garden, where she meticulously tended her plants and lawn, nurturing the beauty around her. Janice loved animals, often feeding the birds and squirrels that visited her yard, and she cared for abandoned baby birds, providing them with the love and warmth they needed until they could fly on their own. Daily walks with her dogs to Cooper Creek Park were a treasured part of her routine, as these moments allowed her to connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors she adored.

Janice was also an avid reader, frequently making library trips with her children and grandchildren, sharing her passion for books and stories that would create lasting memories. Her baking was legendary, especially her famous Molasses Crinkles, which became a beloved holiday staple that her family eagerly looked forward to each year.

She leaves behind her son, Richard “Rick” Amundson and his wife Niki of Columbus, Georgia; her daughter, Carole Amundson Turk of Jupiter, Florida; her grandchildren Daniel “Danny” Turk, Jessica "Jessy" Turk Griffiths and her husband Barrett, Tully Ryan Turk and his wife Asia, Heather Amundson, and James "Jim" Amundson and his wife Crystal; and her great-grandchildren James Amundson and Emilie Amundson. Janice is reunited in eternity with her husband Richard James Amundson, her brother Loren "Woody" Becker, and her beloved parents Lawrence Becker and Evelyn Doe Becker.

Janice Carole Amundson will always be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and the immeasurable love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her. As we reflect on her life, her gentle spirit and bright smile will continue to inspire us to engage with the world around us with love and generosity.
